Hasenhuttl could be sacked during World Cup

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Southampton are ‘considering a change of manager’ during the World Cup with Ralph Hasenhuttl under pressure.

It hasn’t been the most inspiring start to the current Premier League season for the Saints. Indeed, they find themselves just one point and one place above the relegation zone after 13 games.

And it wasn’t that long ago that some fans even sang ‘sacked in the morning‘ towards their own manager during a game against south coast rivals Bournemouth – a game they managed to win.

Evidently, all isn’t quite rosy at the club right now, and it seems as though the Southampton board are well aware of this – if this latest claim is to be believed.

While speaking on Chasing Green Arrows, Jones slammed the club for being ‘boring’ and said the under-pressure Hasenhuttl could be sacked over the winter break.

He explained: “Southampton aren’t very good. I mean, Hasenhuttl’s under all sorts of pressure, Southampton fans want him gone.

“There’s a fair chance Hasenhuttl will be gone during the World Cup break; they’re considering a change of manager. They are so boring, they’ve got no goal threat.”

Southampton have just two Premier League games before the World Cup break in November. First, they host high-flying Newcastle United and then they travel away to Liverpool.

Despite the Reds’ poor form, these are not easy fixtures, so it’s not hard to see Saints dropping points in both matches. This means that by the time England are playing Iran on 21st November, Hasenhuttl’s men could be in the bottom three.

While some of their players may well be hoping to taste glory in Qatar such as captain James Ward-Prowse with the Three Lions or youngster Armel Bella-Kotchap with Germany, the board will be back home trying to figure out the best way to get things back on track at St Mary’s.

It certainly seems as though they could come to the conclusion that this may well be the perfect time to move on from Hasenhuttl and focus on getting the appointment of his successor right.
