Sky Sports pundit Paul Robinson has encouraged Leeds United not to cut Charlie Cresswell’s loan short amid recent claims.

According to Football Insider, it is thought the Whites have the opportunity to recall the young centre-back in January.

The 20-year-old has spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Millwall and was recently named in WhoScored’s Championship team of the month for November.

He has started 12 of the club’s league fixtures, and having lost his place in the side, he rediscovered his form to earn his place among the division’s finest before the mid-season break.

Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson said: “I think he’ll be left out on loan at Millwall.

“He’s bedded in there, he’s learning his trade – he’s getting more 90-minute outings under his belt.

“The Championship is such a tough, competitive division, and the progression he’s showing is a really good sign for Leeds United.

“It would be a shame to call him back, even if he is excelling.

“We’ve got four good senior options to call on in the senior squad, so there’s no use in disrupting a very valuable part of a youngster’s football education.”

The six-cap England U21 international has scored four times this season having proved a threat from set pieces, and as Robinson points out, regular game time is hugely beneficial for his development going forward.

First up, which of these World Cup debutants could Leeds go back in for this winter?

The burgeoning talent has played 138 Premier League minutes, which all came last season, but with Robin Koch, Liam Cooper, Diego Llorente and Pascal Struijk all at Jesse Marsch’s disposal, Cresswell’s route to the first team is blocked for now and we agree that he should be left out on loan.
