Journalist James Marshment claimed that Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams could be the club’s best transfer out of all those who have cost ‘in excess of £20m’.
The Whites have made some fine signings over the years. For instance, most recently, they signed Brazilian winger Raphinha from Rennes for £17m and then sold him to Barcelona for £55m.
However, according to Marshment, they have only ever spent more than £20m on a new signing on five occasions. He names these purchases are Adams, Luis Sinisterra, Brenden Aaronson, Daniel James, and Rodrigo.
All players signed since Leeds returned to the Premier League and so none of them have had that long to truly prove their worth to the club but the journalist has claimed that summer signing Adams is already the ‘best of the lot’.
Indeed, Marshment took to Twitter to say: “Leeds Utd have made five signings in their history costing in excess of £20m. I personally think Tyler Adams might be the best of the lot – a class act on and off the pitch.
Rank them from best to worst: Adams, Luis Sinisterra, Brenden Aaronson, Daniel James, Rodrigo.”
He did later add: Just to be clear, this is not my ranking. I’ve done them in a chronological order. (Most recent first) Adams is my No 1 though, I have stated that.”
TIF Thoughts on Tyler Adams and Leeds United…
Adams left RB Leipzig during the past transfer market, moving to England for a fee reported to be in the region of £20m. Since then, he has established himself as a key part of Jesse Marsch’s plans.
Indeed, the midfielder has started all but one Premier League game so far this season, showing just how important he already has become for his new team.
Clearly, Marshment is a big fan and to be fair to the 23-year-old he is proving his quality on the international stage too. Indeed, as the USMNT captain, he has started both World Cup games so far, averaging a 7.05 SofaScore rating in draws against Wales and England.
