Leeds United defender Diego Llorente has been slammed for his recent performance in the Carabao Cup defeat on Wednesday night.
Presenter Conor McGilligan took to Twitter during the defeat at Molineux to share his frustrations over the Spanish defender, who has already played a fair bit of football this season.
Jesse Marsch’s side saw their two-game winning run come to an end on Wednesday after Wolves dumped them out at Molineux.
Llorente started the game against the Premier League outfit and played the full 90 minutes, having seen his game time under Marsch diminish over recent weeks.
The 29-year-old had played every minute of the first six league games this season, but has recently been pushed back to a spot on the bench, while McGilligan was clearly unimpressed with what he saw in midweek.
He tweeted: “Staggering he still gets minutes.”
TIF Thoughts on McGilligan’s comments…
Looking at Llorente’s stats from the game, the defender seemed to fare pretty well defensively as he racked up four clearances and three tackles while winning four of his five ground duels (via SofaScore).
Is Llorente good enough for Leeds?
However, it was apparent McGilligan was not impressed, as he slammed the centre-back in response to a fan’s comment on the Spaniard being ‘erratic‘.
Llorente has not featured in the Premier League since the defeat to Leicester City, and with Liam Cooper now back to full fitness, you do have to wonder how Llorente can work his way back into the side.
With Cooper now back, it feels as if there may only be one centre-back spot up for grabs, and having played once in the last seven league games, it seems as if Llorente is not in Marsch’s immediate plans – so the manager may yet share McGilligan’s opinion that the Spaniard is not at the top of his game at present.
