Arsenal are one of the clubs showing an interest in PSV Eindhoven superstar Cody Gakpo ahead of the January transfer window.

This has been suggested by insider Graeme Bailey, who has been speaking about the Dutchman on the latest Talking Transfers podcast.

Gakpo came awfully close to leaving the Dutch outfit in the summer, with Leeds United and Southampton pushing for a late deal on deadline day.

However, having been persuaded by Louis van Gaal to stay put until after the World Cup, Gakpo is now one of the big names in Europe who is being tipped for a Premier League move.

With Manchester United also said to be one of the clubs interested in bringing Gakpo to England, Bailey has shone some light on the admiration from Mikel Arteta’s side.

He said: “I think everything is pointing to Cody Gakpo and [Manchester] United. We do know Arsenal have had a little sniff about him as well recently, they’ve looked at him – why wouldn’t you? He’s one of the form players in Europe at the moment, isn’t he, staggering statistics at the moment.”

Arsenal have also been strongly linked with a potential move for Mykhaylo Mudryk ahead of the upcoming window, but it does feel like landing both would be a huge stretch for the winter market.

Who would you prefer at Arsenal?

Both Gakpo and Mudryk operate from the left wing and have had solid starts to the 2022/23 campaign, with the Ukrainian netting eight goals and providing eight assists in his 16 appearances (via Transfermarkt).

However, Gakpo is perhaps the standout of the two, having set the Eredivisie alight with nine goals and 12 assists already this season, as well as another four goals and five assists in other competitions (via Transfermarkt).

And as he prepares to shine in Qatar for the Netherlands, we will perhaps see just how good he is when the Oranje kick off their campaign against Senegal on Monday.

Regardless of who Arsenal may go for, it seems they could potentially add a star player to their squad at a time when it appears they are going to put in a strong title charge after the World Cup break.
