According to Mundo Deportivo (via Barca Universal), Marcos Alonso will be offered a new contract by Barcelona.
The deal will be one year, with an optional second year. Also, basic terms have already been agreed upon by the club and Alonso.
In January, the final negotiations will be held between the full-back and Barca just months on from the Spaniard joining Barcelona having terminated his contract with Chelsea.
Alonso has made seven La Liga appearances and five in the Champions League. His first goal for the Spanish side came in a 4-2 win against Viktoria Plzen in Europe.
The 31-year-old has an average rating of 7.06 on Sofascore in the league and 7.16 on the same website for the Champions League.
So it’s clear to see that Alonso has enjoyed a promising start to his Barca career.
TIF’s view on a potential new deal for Alonso…
Clearly, Alonso has made quite an impression on manager Xavi and the club. Talks of a new deal already suggest he is highly regarded by those at the Camp Nou.
Furthermore, the defender could be a reliable option for Barcelona. There’s no doubt he’s an experienced player, which could be useful for the club for the next couple of years.
However, considering his age, you could argue it’s a bit of a gamble. At 31-years-old, it’s possible that the Spaniard could decline in ability in the near future.
Based on his consistent start to the campaign, Alonso has definitely earnt the potential new deal despite arriving very recently. He’ll hope he can play a significant part as Barca look to continue to push for the La Liga title.
