Leeds United winger, Crysencio Summerville is ‘disappointed’ that he wasn’t called up for the Netherlands World Cup squad after an impressive run of form.
Reports in Spain have suggested the youngster was waiting for a call from Louis van Gaal in recent days and Conor McGilligan has hailed the youngster’s optimistic attitude on the One Leeds Fan Channel on YouTube.
Summerville has already netted four times for Leeds this season. He impressed particularly with his performances against Liverpool and Bournemouth in recent weeks where he scored the winning goal in both games.
And his recent hot streak clearly had him hoping that Netherlands boss Van Gaal would give him the nod for the tournament in Qatar.
McGilligan said: “I’m kind of a big fan of this, apparently Crysencio Summerville is very disappointed and upset that he hasn’t been involved in the Dutch World Cup squad.
“Now for me, it’s too early, but apparently he was hoping that Louis van Gaal was gonna give him a call after his hot streak at Leeds United and I really like that.”
“I love his ambition, I love his drive, his determination to already be wanting to be included in the Dutch squad after really like three or four games at Leeds United and being on a hot streak.”
TIF’s view on McGilligan’s comments…
We agree that the ambition shown by Summerville is something Leeds fans will love. To hear that such a young player at 21-years-old already aspires for a World Cup call-up, that’s real determination on his part.
However, Van Gaal was probably right to not select the winger just yet. When you look at the wingers at the disposal of the Netherlands, they’re simply more established than Summerville.
Cody Gakpo has impressed at PSV Eindhoven and Steven Bergwijn has also had a strong campaign with Ajax. So, Summerville is perhaps not yet at that level yet.
However, if the winger keeps up his previously mentioned hot streak at Leeds, he could make the squad in the near future. If he adds consistency to his game, Van Gaal will surely have no choice but to call him up for the Netherlands next time.
The perfect post-World Cup statement Summerville can make is to catch the eye of Van Gaal, when Leeds returns to Premier League action against Manchester City on December 28.
