TalkSPORT presenter Danny Kelly has been left baffled after Anthony Gordon picked up his fifth yellow card of the season, consequently getting himself suspended for the next Everton game.

In the Toffees’ last outing in the Premier League, they fell to a frustrating defeat in front of their own fans despite first taking the lead via a fine effort from Alex Iwobi.

Indeed, the Nigerian had put Everton in front only for Manchester United to respond thanks to goals from Antony and Cristiano Ronaldo that were enough to see the Red Devils win the game 2-1.

However, on top of the defeat, Gordon also suffered the frustration of a yellow which turned out to be his fifth in the league so far, meaning he will miss the club’s upcoming game against Tottenham Hotspur.

While talking about the player on The View from The Lane podcast, Kelly said (57:01): “Am I right in thinking their best player Anthony Gordon has somehow managed to be the first Premier League player to five yellow cards and won’t play?

TIF thoughts on Anthony Gordon and Everton…

Alongside Gordon, three other players have also picked up five yellow cards this term. Indeed, Ruben Neves, Scott McTominay, and Joao Palhinha will all miss a game for their lack of discipline.

Seeing as the Everton man is the only truly attacking player of this group, it’s not hard to see why Kelly is so baffled by this statistic. In fact, in nine league games, Gordon has three more cards (five) than goals (two), showing that it’s not quite been the ideal campaign for him up to his point.

With Everton down in 12th and facing Spurs who are third, they would have hoped to have their best squad available. With that in mind, Frank Lampard will likely be frustrated that his supposed £60m man is suspended for this one.
