Journalist Graham Smyth has urged Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch to drop Rodrigo in favour of Luis Sinisterra for the club’s next game.
In the Premier League at the moment, the Whites are winless in their last five matches, losing on three occasions and picking up just two draws in their other games.
As a result, they currently sit 14th in the league, three points above the relegation zone. Next up, Leeds host league leaders Arsenal at Elland Road and something may well have to change if they are to get a result in this tricky match.
While speaking about the game on the Inside Elland Road podcast, Smyth said Marsch had to make a ‘difficult’ and drop Rodrigo to fit Luis Sinisterra and Brenden Aaronson in the team.
He explained (26:53): “It’s a really, really difficult one. But I think, if I was forced to give an answer, I would say Rodrigo drops out and Aaronson goes to 10.
“And maybe he plays a little more to the right and links up with Sinisterra or maybe he rotates with Sinisterra and they swap positions now and again.”
With four goals to his name so far this season, no Leeds player has scored more goals than Rodrigo and so it would certainly be controversial to see Marsch drop him from the lineup.
However, his last goal contribution came on the third game week and he has played four Premier League games since without providing for a teammate or scoring himself.
After his red card against Aston Villa, Sinisterra didn’t feature against Crystal Palace. But with the winger available for selection once more, he could come back into the side. After all, he too has been amongst the goals this term, with three of his won and one assist in seeing outings in total (via Transfermarkt).
It will certainly be interesting to see what Marsch does against the Gunners.
