Tom Lawrence’s injury setback is a huge blow for Rangers according to Alan Hutton.

The former Gers’ right-back was speaking to Football Insider following the news that the attacker is likely to be out until after the World Cup.

As quoted by Glasgow Live, manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has revealed that Lawrence faces months on the sideline following an injury he sustained in training.

The ex-Derby man was originally ruled out after picking up a knock against Ross County at the end of August and Bears captain James Tavernier has described it a “big blow” for the club.

Hutton too shares that view.

He said:

“It is a real setback.

“It is a big blow for Rangers and for Tom himself. I think he was coming back in good time from his initial injury and he has picked up something else. It must be serious if they are talking months and not weeks.

“It is frustrating because you have done the hard work. You have been through the injury, you have fought your way back and you have done the hard graft. You then go back to square one. So he is probably feeling really frustrated but he is just going to have to take his time, there is nothing he can do about it now. The work starts over again.

“I really feel for him because he was probably one of the signings that hit the ground running and was doing well and making a difference. Big blow but opportunity for someone else to step up.“

TIF Thoughts on Hutton’s comments…

Will Rangers miss Tom Lawrence

Yes!

Yes!

No, we have others!

No, we have others!

The 23-cap Welsh ace had enjoyed a fast start to life in Glasgow scoring three goals and registering two assists in nine appearances.

He was averaging a return every 122 minutes shining particularly in an attacking midfield role behind the striker and his absence will be felt.

Only Tavernier and Antonio Colak have been involved in more goals but it could open the door for the likes of Malik Tillman or indeed Scott Arfield to thrive in that free role as Hutton suggested.
