Bringing in Steve Hitchen would be a “very interesting” appointment by Celtic.

That’s according to journalist Dean Jones who has been speaking to This Is Futbol amid speculation surrounding the former Tottenham Technical Performance Director.

Hitchen left his role in February of this year with The Telegraph reporting that he had grown frustrated with his influence amid Fabio Paratici’s position at the club.

Now The Scottish Sun have claimed that Hitchen could well take up a post as an advisor at Parkhead.

Jones has admitted that talks have gone cold but has revealed that the 45-year-old has plenty of admirers in north London.

He said: “This has been played down quite widely now so it sounds like it won’t happen but it could have been very interesting. I mean, I mainly know about him from his work at Tottenham and talking to people there a lot of people were really impressed by him and you can totally see why a club like Celtic might feel that they could benefit on the kind of context that he’s got in the game, but also the profile of players that he’s capable of bringing in.”

TIF Thoughts on Hitchen and Celtic…

Ange Postecoglou has already proven to be a shrewd operator in the transfer market himself raiding the J.League in Japan where he formerly worked and picking up Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota that have been crucial to the club’s resurgence under the Australian.

Adding Hitchen could prove a masterstroke with former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino calling his work ‘fantastic’ after bringing in Lucas Moura.

The transfer guru is said to have played a huge role in signing Luca Modric for the Lilywhites before displaying his expertise by recruiting Luis Suarez while in a similar role at Liverpool.

Ryan Rowe of The Scottish Sun also noted that such an appointment ‘would also help keep Postecgolou happy and away from potential suitors’ so Hoops’ fans will be hoping there is still a chance he wounds up in Glasgow.
