talkSPORT’s Alex Crook has claimed that Julen Lopetegui is another ‘interesting’ name when it comes to the vacant managerial post at Wolves.
The club parted company with Bruno Lage following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at West Ham.
A loss that leaves the Old Gold in the relegation zone and floundering.
Lage led the club to just one victory in the last 15 games and with only three goals this term they have the worst record going forward in the Premier League.
Ruben Amorim of Sporting Lisbon has emerged as a leading contender to take the reins at Molineux but Sevilla boss Lopetegui is also in the frame.
Speaking on the talkSPORT GameDay podcast Crook said he believes the next manager will have a connection to super agent Jorge Mendes and said:
“The other interesting one is Lopetegui at Sevilla, who’s under a bit of pressure.
“I think he would be of interest as well.”
TIF Thoughts on Lopetegui and Wolves…
Will Costa be a success at Wolves?Yes!No! |
Lopetegui led Sevilla to the 2019/20 Europa League but after a third-place finish in the same campaign and back-to-back seasons ranking fourth in La Liga, Los Nervionenses are struggling in 17th place this term.
They have managed just one win through seven games and given that Lopetegui manages just 1.85 years on average at a post, perhaps Wolves would be as well to look elsewhere.
He infamously left the national job with Spain on the eve of the 2018 World Cup to take the hot seat at Real Madrid only to be sacked three months into the season.
Considering he is 56, a much younger manager in Amorim, who has already won five pieces of silverware in his early managerial career, would be a much better option.
