Journalist Lee Davey believes that Pedro Martins becoming Wolves‘ next manager would make sense following the sacking of Bruno Lage.

It likely didn’t come as much of a shock to many people associated with Wolves when Lage was relieved of his duties following their 2-0 defeat at the weekend, which made it just two wins in their last 16 Premier League matches stretching back into last season.

All the talk is now about who the right man is to come in and get a Wolves squad full of exciting players such as Pedro Neto, Daniel Podence and Ruben Neves firing as they have done in the past – and out-of-work boss Martins is seen as a favourite.

While speaking live on Sky Sports, Davey claimed that Wolves going for Martins makes sense, especially given his nationality.

He said: “They’re linked with Martins, who’s a former Olympiacos manager, he’s won three straight titles there in Greece. And again, he’s Portuguese, so it makes sense for the club with such a huge Portuguese contingent to kind of follow in their footsteps of before and bring another Portuguese coach in.

Do you want Pedro Martins as Wolves manager?

Yes!

No!

No!

“We’ll see how that goes, but it looks as though with him currently being a free agent that that’s a possibility for him to move to Molineux.”

TIF Thoughts on Martins joining Wolves…

It’s true that Martins was indeed very successful out in Greece with Olympiacos, but prior to that, he’d only ever managed in Portugal with very little success, as his best points-per-game ratio in a single season was 1.53 with Vitoria Guimaraes.

Which former Man United man almost joined Wolves?

That may not likely fill Wolves fans with joy, and they may be growing tired of the Portuguese theme at Molineux, as it may well have now gone stale given they are languishing in the bottom three as things stand.

However, as reported by The Athletic, it’s widely acknowledged within Wolves that Jorge Mendes is still a key figure at the club, and if he has anything to do with Martins and wants him to get the Premier League job, he may well be the one they settle for.
