Tottenham Hotspur should be allowing Antonio Conte to spend more money in the transfer market “as soon as possible”.

That is according to journalist Dean Jones, who was speaking to GiveMeSport about the latest news on Hotspur Way.

Spurs slipped to their second consecutive loss on Sunday after first-half goals from Callum Wilson and Miguel Almirón secured a 2-1 victory for Newcastle United despite Harry Kane pulling a goal back.

However, in spite of the result, Spurs remain third in the Premier League table, but only two points clear of fifth-placed Chelsea, who have a game in hand on their London rivals.

And Jones, who was speaking after the Lilywhites’ 2-0 defeat at Manchester United last week, believes that the club will be “encouraged” by Conte to spend more money to help progress the squad further.

Jones said: “He’ll believe fully in his system for that game, he’ll just feel that a couple of players let him down [against Manchester United].

“So, I do think that Tottenham will be encouraged by Conte to spend more money as soon as possible.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments on Spurs and Conte…

We feel that despite the club’s solid start to the season, the club still need to show more prowess and add more additions to the squad if they are to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United in the transfer market.

The club reportedly spent over £150m in transfer fees during the summer, but were still unable to add an attacking midfielder to the side – which is something the team arguably lacks.

Former Spurs man Christian Eriksen could have filled that hole for free this summer, but the Denmark international chose to join Manchester United instead, leaving the north London side short in that number 10 role.

Therefore, we agree with Jones and think that Conte will be imploring Daniel Levy to spend more money, perhaps in January, as the Italian looks to shape his team and turn their fortunes around.
