Journalist Josh Bunting believes it would be ‘mental’ for Vincent Kompany to take the Aston Villa job amid recent reports linking him with the managerial vacancy.

Aaron Danks certainly put his name in the hat for the vacant position on Sunday afternoon as he oversaw a very convincing 4-0 victory at home to Brentford.

But Danks may face fierce competition if Football Insider’s latest report is to be believed, as they are looking to approach Burnley boss Kompany, who has lost just once since taking over in the summer.

However, Bunting believes it wouldn’t make sense for him to jump ship just yet, claiming Kompany would indeed be ‘mental’ to leave the project he’s got going at Turf Moor for a tough job in the Premier League at Villa Park.

Writing on Twitter, he said: “Kompany would be mental to leave Burnley. I don’t even think he’s considering it, but he’s building an excellent, exciting Championship team. For football-wise on Saturday, they were one of the best sides I’ve witnessed in the Championship in terms of moving the ball.”

TIF Thoughts on Kompany being linked with Villa…

It’s a very left-field link to have emerged this morning about Villa looking at Kompany with keen interest given he’s only managed in England for a few months and is still only into his second job as a first-team manager.

That may well sound all too familiar for Villa fans, as Gerrard had only managed Rangers at first-team level before coming to Villa Park. Obviously, that didn’t work out for anyone, so maybe someone a bit more tried and tested in football management should be what the Villa board look for.

Interestingly, they may be doing just that, as according to Fabrizio Romano, the Villans have offered the role to former Arsenal boss Unai Emery.

Meanwhile, from Kompany’s point of view, it would be a huge risk to leave Burnley, who offered him his chance in England, especially after the start they’ve had this season, losing just once in the Championship so far and looking a good bet for bouncing straight back into the Premier League.
