Alasdair Gold has urged Tottenham Hotspur to not fail in backing Antonio Conte in the January transfer market.

Conte certainly hasn’t hidden his desire to be backed sufficiently once again in the transfer market by Spurs and Daniel Levy, this is despite the club handing him a transfer war chest of over £150 million during the summer.

This is something Levy must recognise is essential given how many injuries Spurs have sustained thus far, and Gold believes he has to avoid a repeat of the 2012 January transfer window when the only first-team signings were Louis Saha and Ryan Nelsen, both on free transfers.

Gold has claimed on his YouTube channel that if Levy repeats anything like that window, Conte could become very angry at Tottenham.

(38:20) “If Spurs are in third or fourth going into the final months of the season after the World Cup, it’s logical to look at that situation and say, now we consolidate that and we build on top of that foundation as well.

Will Spurs make more signings in January?

Yes!

“Because otherwise, you’re doing a Louis Saha and Ryan Nelsen January window, that’s what you’re doing and if Antonio Conte has a January window like that, expect a kind of nuclear mushroom cloud over N17 because that’s not going to go down well.”

TIF Thoughts Spurs potential January transfer window…

It would be simply inexcusable for Levy to only proved Conte with a January transfer window close to the one Gold has been speaking about, especially given the Italian has the club sitting inside the top four and in pole position to progress in the Champions League.

While that may not appear to be any mean feat, prior to Conte arriving, Spurs hadn’t actually played in the Champions League since 2020, so the Italian’s achievements shouldn’t be sneered at in the slightest.

How well do you know where these Spurs signings came from? Take our quiz to find out! Firstly, where did Dimitar Berbatov arrive from?

If Spurs wish to keep pushing and being competitive this season, reinforcements will be required in January, at least to just cover the apparent injury woes Spurs can’t seem to get rid of with the likes of Dejan Kulusevski, Lucas Moura and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg all suffering setbacks this season.

You can bet your last pound on Levy not backing Conte enough, he’ll either sell to fund any incoming or sign freebies.
