The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke has heaped praise on Bryan Gil following his cameo appearance for Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League.

It’s been a far from successful time for Gil since joining Spurs last summer, as he’s still yet to start a single game in the Premier League and was shipped out on loan last January to help him find his form and confidence once again.

However, this season hasn’t been any different, with Gil yet to get off the bench in the league, but appeared to impress in Spurs’ 1-1 draw against Sporting in midweek – and Pitt-Brooke believes he’s now the player Tottenham have been missing recently.

Pitt-Brooke took to Twitter to suggest that Gil, who’s yet to start a game this season, believes that the winger’s creativity and ability to win free kicks is what Spurs need right now.

He tweeted: “You know who is Actually Good? Bryan Gil.

“Not just in a sort of “ah, isn’t this small child trying his best” way, but actually creating things, committing defenders, winning free-kicks, doing all the properly important stuff. He looks like a modern creative forward. And, to be honest, exactly the sort of player Spurs need.”

TIF Thoughts on Gil…

It’s quite the outlandish claim from Pitt-Brooke given how little game time Gil’s been afforded under Antonio Conte this season, but considering Spurs’ toothless nature in the final third over recent weeks – with just three goals in three games – the Spaniard could be the answer to their woes.

Despite only coming on in the 70th minute, journalist Alasdair Gold handed Gil a 7/10 rating and even claimed he put in an ‘impressive performance’, which could well be food for thought for Conte heading into their game this weekend.

While Spurs laboured to a 1-1 draw at home last night amid VAR controversy, Pitt-Brooke went on to say good things can come out of adversity, with one of them being Gil and how he may prove to be ‘very valuable‘ for Conte in a 3-4-3 formation moving forward.
