Alasdair Gold has insisted that Antonio Conte may hand Bryan Gil another opportunity to show he deserves a future at Tottenham Hotspur.

Gil was once again only afforded a spot on the bench in midweek for Tottenham in the Champions League, although he appeared to make more of an impact during his cameo appearance this time around, going close to getting his first goal of the season and winning his side a penalty.

The Spaniard is still yet to start a game in the Premier League for Spurs despite having joined last summer, so it’s safe to say that his career to date at Tottenham has been far from a success.

However, Gold has claimed on his YouTube channel that Conte may well offer him a final chance to impress this weekend against Everton.

He said: “It’s just about building that trust with Conte now. If Conte’s a fair man – and I’m sure he is – he might, against Everton at some point in the game, look at the bench and think, ‘do you know what, Bryan Gil’s deserved another chance, let’s get him on there’.

“He may look at Bryan Gil and decide, you know what, he did really well there [against Frankfurt]. He won a penalty and he could have had another goal if Harry Kane had just played him a decently heightened ball, and maybe he does bring him on.

Does Bryan Gil have a future at Spurs?

“Then that’s his chance to do it again, and I think the fans haven’t written him off yet at all.”

TIF Thoughts on Gil’s position at Tottenham Hotspur…

Even if Conte does hand Gil another chance off the bench, it’s very unlikely that he will get a start ahead of someone such as Son Heung-min, Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski or even Lucas Moura – which means he likely doesn’t have a long-term future at Spurs.

Gil was an exciting young talent when signed last summer by Tottenham for £21.6 million, but he simply hasn’t been able to live up to expectations and cope with the physical demands of the Premier League.

All Gil can do is make the most of his chances when handed them by Conte, but given how demanding the Italian manager is, it may take a lot for him to gain his trust after a long time working under him.
