Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has been slammed by Ally McCoist for his recent comments amid Spurs’ poor run of results.

The former Scotland footballer has been speaking on TalkSport and unleashed a rant towards the Italian after he felt Conte was trying to deflect away from Spurs’ form.

It has been a testing week for the Lilywhites who had suffered back-to-back defeats against Manchester United and Newcastle United in the space of a few days.

And in response to scrutiny from the media about the club’s form and deficit to the league leaders, Conte replied:

“I am surprised you are asking about Man United and Chelsea being in transition. If Chelsea are in transition after they won the Champions League two years ago and last season they won the Club World Cup. United two years ago finished second.”

But speaking prior to Tottenham’s recent draw in the Champions League aginst Sporting, McCoist has slammed Conte for bringing other sides into question and suggested he should focus on his own club, labelling his answer a cop-out.

McCoist said: “He should just be concentrating on his own job and getting Spurs better, never mind commenting on other teams. It seems like a cop-out to me, I’ve got to say.

“The first time you hear him saying it is after a couple of bad results – whether it’s at Old Trafford and obviously the home result against Newcastle.

“I like him, just concentrate on your job. I think he’s a good coach, good manager – just concentrate on your own job. I wouldn’t be bringing other teams into it.”

TIF Thoughts on McCoist’s comments…

There will obviously be an aspect of Conte looking to deflect the blame away from his side amid their struggles which have certainly been on show in two dreadful performances before their lacklustre showing in midweek.

Are you worried with Spurs' form?

Yes

Yes

No

No

However, we also think there is some truth in what he is saying considering the figures spent by the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea over the summer in comparison to the north London side.

Spurs may be higher in the table than the two sides in question, however, it does have to be remembered they are not able to compete on the financial level of those clubs, so perhaps McCoist should cut Conte a bit of slack.
