Journalist Alasdair Gold has praised Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg after he shouted at Son Heung-min to keep him focused during a game.
The Dane helped Spurs claim a tight 1-0 victory over Brighton in the Premier League over the weekend playing the full 90 minutes as a single Harry Kane decided the match.
Evidently, though, with the score being so closed, the entire Tottenham squad had to dig in and work hard to make sure they kept a clean sheet and pick up all three points.
While speaking about the match on his YouTube channel, Gold singled out Hojbjerg for his ability to keep the team alive and alert, highlighting one moment where he shouted at Son as a perfect example of this.
The journalist said (44:29): “He’s such a leader on the pitch as well. He is an organiser. There was one moment he had him like a shout at Sonny. It was nothing bad, you know it wasn’t like having a massive go at him.
“But he shouted at him because he could see that Son was having a bit of a chat with Harry Kane. The keeper was about to take the kick and you could see Hojbjerg there shouting to say like: ‘Get back, get in position. Stop jabbering away and come back and get in position and be ready where you needed to be.’
“And Son, to be fair, instantly there was no like complaining, he was just immediately: ‘Oh yea, that is my job’ kind of thing. And I think that’s, one of Hojbjerg’s massive qualities. I do feel he’s such an underrated player.”
TIF thoughts on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Spurs…
Hojbjerg has started every Premier League and every Champions League game so far this season for Spurs, so it’s safe to say manager Antonio Conte rates his leadership qualities too.
And, to be fair, the midfielder was praised elsewhere for his display against Brighton too. In the player ratings for the Evening Standard, he was handed an 8/10 for his efforts.
Journalist Dan Kilpatrick wrote: “Helped to make the goal with a lovely cushioned pass to Son, and played really well. Recycled the ball when necessary and drove forward when space opened up.”
And seeing as Spurs clung on and managed to get the win against the Seagulls, Hojbjerg’s shouts and commands certainly did the trick on the day. Taking it all into account, it seems as though he is proving to be an indispensable part of the Tottenham team.
