Manager Tony Pulis has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero needed a ‘kick up the backside’ late on in the club’s most recent game.

Playing early on Saturday evening in the Premier League, Spurs travelled away from home as they looked to pick up three points on the road against Brighton and Hove Albion.

In the end, Antonio Conte’s men did indeed manage to claim a win with key striker Harry Kane heading in the only goal of the game during the first half.

The 1-0 win naturally meant for a tense end to the match and Tottenham had to be at their best defensively in the closing stages of the game. While speaking on the BBC during the match with just minutes left to play, Pulis noted that Romero looked tired at this stage.

He expressed as much, saying: “Cristian Romero needs a kick up the backside there. He looks tired.

“Tottenham really have to dig in because Brighton are pushing and pushing.”

Tottenham Hotspur fans, who were these players sold to? Starting with an easy one: Gareth Bale

Pulis was perhaps right to note Romero’s fatigue as minutes later he gave away a ‘needless free-kick near the corner flag’ after clattering into Brighton player Kaoru Mitoma.

Fortunately, though, the defender got away with that and did enough to help his side keep a clean sheet and pick up all three points at the Amex. This was the Argentine’s first Premier League clean sheet of the season after six appearances, so he’ll no doubt be delighted to have achieved that.

With one clearance, one blocked shot, one interception, one tackle, and 52/60 completed passes (via SofaScore) Romero certainly played his part in the win, even if he did seem to struggle for energy in the final stages.

Did you think Cristian Romero looked tired at the end of this game?
