Tottenham Hotspur endured a difficult evening at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.

They travelled to Manchester in third place but with the chance of moving into second and just one point off top spot if they could beat Manchester United.

However, it was a game they never looked like winning simply put, and nor did they take anything from the game as the Red Devils ran out comfortable 2-0 victors.

Former Spurs favourite Christian Eriksen didn’t start the game for United and was instead a late substitute on the night.

However, before the game, Antonio Conte shared a heartwarming moment with the midfielder with the two having a history together at Inter Milan.

‘Walking out at The Theatre of Dreams seconds after the teams had emerged from the tunnel, Eriksen shared a touching moment with Conte. Knowing each other from their time together at Inter Milan, the Tottenham boss put his arm over the midfielder’s shoulder, and the pair chatted for a brief period of time as they walked down the touchline together.’

Should Spurs have gone for Eriksen?

The 30-year-old spent six and a half seasons in north London and was directly involved in 159 goals in 305 games for the Lilywhites before linking up with Conte in Italy.

While with Inter, the Dane won a Serie A title with the current Spurs boss witnessing his talents first hand.

Eriksen was linked with a sensational return to N17 before deciding to pull out of a move.

He is a player that could well have helped fill the void of a no.10 in the side with the 117-time Denmark international currently ranking joint-first for assists in the league at Old Trafford this season (WhoScored).

The one-time Ajax ace also places joint-second among his teammates for crosses per 90 minutes and sixth for average passes which raises the question as to why the north Londoners decided to walk away from a potential deal.
