talkSPORT football correspondent Alex Crook has aimed a dig at Djed Spence as he continues to be overlooked at Tottenham.

Spence has only been used once by Antonio Conte since his £19m transfer from Middlesbrough in the summer.

Emerson Royal has been preferred by the Italian manager at right wing-back, with Matt Doherty, another option, limited to just 22 Premier League minutes.

For the 6-2 thrashing of Leicester City, Ivan Perisic was moved to the right as opposed to Spence or Doherty being given a start.

Conte did admit that Spence was a ‘club’ signing rather than a target, which may explain why he has been so infrequently seen.

Crook has now spoken on the talkSPORT GameDay podcast about Arsenal and Tottenham’s summer transfer activity, saying:

“Tottenham, I think spent money on strengthening the squad. Arsenal spent money on improving their first 11.

“I think the signings of Jesus and Zinchenko that you mentioned, I think will prove to be two of the most important signings of the season.

“But apart from Richarlison, how many of the players that Tottenham signed in the summer have made any real impact – and has anyone seen Djed Spence, by the way?”

football.london writer Rob Guest has already described Emerson as ‘sloppy‘ for his performances this season and given that the Brazilian is now suspended it could potentially open the door for Spence.

The 22-year-old shone on loan at Nottingham Forest as the Garibaldi Reds achieved promotion to the Premier League last season grabbing two goals and five assists in 42 Championship appearances.

However, considering it was Doherty who was introduced after Emerson was sent off in the north London derby at the weekend it could be that the youngster is once again left out.
