Journalist Greg O’Keeffe has been speaking about how Everton were looking to sign a No 10 during the summer transfer window to add to their eight recruits.

Looking back, Everton’s summer transfer window was very successful on the whole, with the likes of Conor Coady, James Tarkowski and Amadou Onana slotting straight in and helping the Toffees boast the best defence in the Premier League.

While Everton fans and Frank Lampard will be thrilled at the success of their summer signings and the fact they have recorded back-to-back league wins, it could have been even better had they landed the 10 they craved.

O’Keeffe has now claimed on the All Together Now podcast that Everton were indeed in the market for such a player over the summer.

He said: “I still think if you’re being picky, I think we lack some quality in the final third. I think they were looking at maybe trying to get another No 10-style player, and we do need that.”

TIF Thoughts on Everton’s attacking issues…

Despite having now recorded successive victories, it hasn’t all been easy for the Toffees and Frank Lampard, who have scored just seven goals all season, which puts them inside the bottom four within the Premier League.

Therefore, it appears that they are indeed struggling in the final third, which may not come as much of a surprise given that their England international striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is yet to kick a ball this season.

Given they are very close to a spot inside the top 10, Everton fans likely won’t have many complaints thus far considering last season’s close call and will be excited to head into the January transfer window – with a No 10 likely high up on their wishlist.
