Newcastle moved to within two points of the top four with another victory in midweek.

Eddie Howe’s side grabbed their third win in four matches as Miguel Almiron’s goal proved the difference against Everton.

The Magpies now find themselves on 18 points with Chelsea on 20 and with their next game being at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium they can really stake their claim on a top-six finish against one of the established English elite this Sunday.

However, the team could be without Joelinton, who Howe confirmed suffered a knee injury, while Fabian Schar may also make miss the trip.

Speaking on the Premier FPL Injuries YouTube channel injury expert Ben Dinnery said:

(4:35)”There are also slight issues with regards to Fabian Schar. Looked as if he had tweaked his hamstring but continued to play 90.

“He’s also managing an ongoing foot problem. There is a couple of options in there for Eddie Howe, he could bring Matty Targett in at left-back with moving Dan Burn into the middle. You also have Jamaal Lascelles the club captain who could come in there as well.”

TIF Thoughts on Schar and Newcastle…

Is Schar NUFC's most important defender?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The 30-year-old has started ten of the Toon’s 11 Premier League games so far this season helping the club to five clean sheets, the joint-most in the division.

Only Kieran Trippier, Nick Pope and Miguel Almiron have played more minutes than the Swiss centre-back who has been first choice in that department for the club.

Schar also ranks as the north-east side’s fourth-best performing player this term with an average match rating of 7.26 (WhoScored).

He has also made more interceptions, more blocks and more clearances per 90 minutes than any of his teammates and Howe will be hoping he isn’t a long-term absentee.
