Newcastle United have an eye on the possibility of looking to bring Leandro Trossard to St. James Park in the upcoming transfer windows.

This has been suggested by the 90mins insider Graeme Bailey who has been speaking about the Belgian forward on the latest episode of the Talking Transfers podcast.

The Magpies have made a promising start to the campaign which sees them sat in sixth spot of the Premier League table with an interesting matchup on the weekend against Tottenham Hotspur.

And the Brighton & Hove Albion star has also made a seriously impressive start to the 2022/23 campaign with five goals and two assists already to his name in the Premier League.

However, it does not seem as if Eddie Howe is satisfied with settling for where they are currently with Bailey believing the Toon have an eye on the possibility of adding Trossard to their squad:

“And Newcastle I think they’d sign him for a different reason or they want him for a different reason. They do still lack that ability to unlock teams at times inn the final third you know.

“At the moment, Newcastle are relying on the spectacular. We’ve seen Almiron hashit a rich vein of form and it’s his magical moments. We saw Fabian Schar hit a 30-yarder against Nottingham Forest eariery in the season. But sometimes you’ve got to work your way through these players. And they’re a bit over-reliant on Bruno at times.”

“And in terms of fees, Scott [Saunders], you know, a year left, you know, you’re not looking at £50m. But yeah, I think you’re looking £25m I would say, from what I’m hearing £20m/£25m is about right.”

TIF Thoughts on Bailey’s comments…

We think this could be a really interesting addition to the Newcastle squad and one – based on his current form – which could provide another reliable source of goals.

There is little doubting Callum Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin and Alexander Isak’s goalscoring prowess, however, they have all shown their unreliability in staying fit.

Miguel Almiron has been a surprise package in terms of his output in front of goal this season. The long-term stats would suggest it would be surprising to see him keep this form up.

If he is not to keep this fine form up, someone like Trossard could certainly prove to be a positive option to either replace or support Almiron if the goals are to dry up for the Paraguayan.
