Newcastle have been handed a potential injury blow after Joelinton was subbed off at half-time.

Eddie Howe’s side picked up their third win in four matches at St. James’ Park on Wednesday evening with Miguel Almiron’s goal enough to see off Everton.

Three days on from a credible point at Old Trafford against Manchester United, the Magpies returned to action but the victory may have come at a cost.

Joelinton who played the full 90 minutes on Sunday failed to reappear for the second half in midweek and may be feeling the effects of a congested schedule.

Sky Sports posted that Joe Willock had replaced the Brazilian at the break insisting it was ‘good management’ on Howe’s part with the midfielder on a yellow card.

However, Lee Hendrie was on duty for the broadcaster at the game and said:
“I think Joelinton picked up a little injury before halftime.”

Joelinton was named as Newcastle’s player of the year last season and has been a key figure in the side in the Premier League so far this term.

He has started all but one of the club’s fixtures and according to SofaScore, he is Howe’s seventh-best-performing player with an average match rating of 7.1.

He is second for tackles and third for interceptions per 90 minutes (WhoScored) while also ranking second among his teammates for dribbles and fourth for key passes.

Transformed into a hard-working, robust midfielder, the 26-year-old has been Howe’s most-used player since he took charge and the manager will certainly be hoping that he has avoided any serious damage.
