Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Aston Villa may well sack Steven Gerrard with Mauricio Pochettino interested in the role.

The Telegraph have reported that the club are looking to make an ambitious attempt to land the Argentine coach.

The Villans have won just two of their first ten Premier League games and sit just above the relegation zone with Gerrard’s future in doubt.

Villa face a huge battle to try and lure the former PSG manager to the west Midlands but are prepared to ‘move heaven and earth’ to try.

Jones has now told GIVEMESPORT that he understands Pochettino is open to the idea of taking the reins and has urged the side to make their move.

He said: “It might not be ethical to go digging for a new manager while the other one is still in place.

“But we’ve said for a while that we understand Pochettino is interested in this job. That is, for me, something that Aston Villa cannot ignore.”

Football Insider have previously claimed that the 50-yer-old coach is plotting a return to the English game and isn’t just interested in speaking to teams competing in Europe.

As a result, we believe Christian Purslow and company should be doing everything they can to bring the ex-Tottenham boss to Bodymoor Heath.

Pochettino led Spurs to their highest-ever finish in the Premier League as they accumulated 86 points and placed second in 2016/17.

He was seemingly under consideration to succeed Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea last month and a manager of his calibre won’t be without work for long.
