Mehrdad Ghodoussi has sent Sven Botman a message on Instagram after his most recent performance for Newcastle United.

The Newcastle centre-back has hit the ground running since arriving on Tyneside over the summer, having yet to lose a game in the famous black and white shirt as he put in an 8/10 performance in their victory this weekend.

It was a landmark result for the Magpies as Tottenham Hotspur had won every home game this season until Eddie Howe’s side rocked up and recorded an impressive 2-1 win – and Newcastle co-owner Ghodoussi had special praise for Botman.

Ghodoussi sent some fire emojis to Botman following his most recent Instagram post, showing how much he enjoyed the Dutchman’s performance in the capital.

TIF Thoughts on Botman…

Ghodoussi’s views and thoughts will likely resonate throughout the boardroom as Botman was a long-term target and someone Newcastle spent a lot of money on – he’s the club’s most expensive defender. So to see him performing like a ‘maestro’, as his teammate Nick Pope has labelled him, will please Ghodoussi and PIF.

Botman has formed a formidable partnership with Fabian Schar already and is still yet to taste defeat may well have exceeded even his own expectations this campaign – and certainly being inside the top four will have been beyond many people’s wildest dreams.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

It’s not just his defending that’s caught the eye either, as his ability to distribute the ball out from the back has been very impressive. Botman ranks top for accurate long passes out of Newcastle players to have started at least two league games (FBref), which allows the Magpies to relieve themselves of any pressure if they are being pinned back.
