Journalist Lee Ryder has praised Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier for his superb display in the club’s most recent game.

The Magpies managed to lift themselves to fourth in the league – up into the Champions League spots – as they claimed a massive three points away from home in the Premier League this weekend.

Goals from Newcastle duo Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron meant that Eddie Howe’s men went into the break leading Tottenham Hotspur by two goals.

And, despite Harry Kane pulling one back for Spurs with a header in the second half of the match, the Magpies hung onto their lead, picking up the impressive victory.

There were a number of fine performers on the day but Trippier was amongst the best and Ryder made this clear as he handed the defender an 8/10 player rating for Chronicle Live.

He also wrote: “Smashed through the 100 touch barrier. A steely display.”

TIF thoughts on Kieran Trippier and Newcastle United…

Just as the journalist points out, Trippier did indeed end the game with 100 touches to his name which is more than any other player on the pitch (according to SofaScore).

Beyond that, he also won 7/7 ground duels (the most in his team), had one clearance off the line, won two fouls, and showed his attacking quality too with one key pass.

Looking at that, it’s fair to say Trippier delivered a complete performance as he contributed in a major way in both defence and attack. Seeing as the game ended up rather close at 2-1, the Magpies certainly needed his quality to get across the line with all three points.

All in all, a fine day at the office for the 32-year-old coming up against his former side.
