Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison had claimed that Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes was the ‘best player on the pitch’ in the club’s last outing.

During their most recent Premier League match, the Magpies hosted Brentford and could not be contained as they powered to a comprehensive  5-1 home victory.

Indeed, Guimaraes netted twice while further strikes from Jacob Murphy, Miguel Almiron and an Ethan Pinnock own goal gave Newcastle the win despite Ivan Toney initially making it 2-1 when he converted a penalty.

In a win such as that, nearly all the Newcastle were deserving of some praise but it seems as though their Brazilian midfielder was the pick of the bunch for Morrison.

Indeed, while speaking on on Soccer Saturday, he said: “Guimaraes has been the best player on the pitch today.”

TIF thoughts on Bruno Guimaraes and Newcastle United…

It’s safe to say, Morrison was not the only one who thought Guimaraes stood out with his impressive two-goal display. Indeed, the Shields Gazette gave him a 10/10 for his efforts in their player ratings and said he was ‘simply on another level.’

On SofaScore, he was given a match rating of 8.9 – the best on the pitch – as he managed 83 per cent passing, had 70 touches (second most in his side) completed one out of one dribble, made four tackles, and scored with both his efforts at goal.

His role in that resounding win means that Newcastle now have won three matches in the Premier League, drawn five, and lost just one in what has been an impressive start to the new season

Taking it all into account, it’s hard to argue with Morrison’s verdict.
