Sky Sports reporter Lewis Jones noted Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte was furious with Son Heung-min after he wasted a key opportunity in the club’s recent game.

The South Korean played 80 minutes and even provided an assist as he helped Spurs claim an important win in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Harry Kane’s goal was just enough to give Tottenham a narrow 1-0 win against Brighton and the club’s Italian manager was evidently stressed on the touchline as he watched on.

This was highlighted in one key moment when Son failed to make the most of a good opportunity to add to the score when set up by Spurs teammate Ryan Sessegnon.

While at the Amex, Jones was quoted on Sky Sports as saying: “Oh, Sonny. It’s still not really happening for the South Korean this season. Sessegnon did brilliantly to find him and all he needed to do was slip his teammate back in but he ran down a cul-de-sac. Conte turned away in disgust on the touchline.”

TIF thoughts on Son Heung-min and Spurs…

As Jones alludes to with his comment, Son certainly has struggled at times this season. Despite starting the first six league games of the season, he failed to register a goal until he was dropped against Leicester City.

He responded by netting a hattrick against the Foxes but drew blank again in the north London derby defeat to Arsenal. And while he started against Brighton once more, it seems as though he wasn’t quite on it down south either – as evidenced by Conte’s reaction to the poor play mentioned above.

This off performance was hinted at in the player ratings for the Evening Standard where Dan Kilpatrick noted that his ‘touch was shaky again’ and he also ‘stuttered in the final third’.

At the very least, he grabbed an assist as his side won – so it was far from a disastrous display – but Son’s form certainly is a little bit worrying.
