Phil Hay has admitted that Crysencio Summerville is continuing to impress people at Leeds United in both first-team training and Under 21s games.

It was yet another disappointing afternoon for Leeds as they fell to their third defeat of the season and stretched their winless run to five games now having not won in the league since August 21st which will feel like a very long time ago now.

Leeds did indeed take a 1-0 lead during the first half but they failed to both hold onto it or add to it, despite having all of Patrick Bamford, Rodrigo and Jack Harrison on the pitch from kick-off, but someone who has impressed behind the scenes and away from the first time, Summerville, was only handed 28 minutes.

Hay has claimed on The Phil Hay Show, that despite not doing much vs Crystal Palace, Summerville has been impressing people within the club at Leeds.

(19:45) “The Premier League isn’t a division that’s particularly forgiving when it comes to using untried and untested players and to an extent, I think we’ve seen that with Summerville as well.

“I hear a lot of people say at Leeds that in the under 21s, in training and everything else, Summerville is one of the most impressive players, hence why he’s moved up the order.

Should Summerville start for Leeds?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“But the ability to make an impact in games is a challenge for him still and I think that was the case yesterday, I don’t think he thrived when he came on I don’t think he particularly changed anything significantly.”

TIF Thoughts on Summerville…

While it will be a lot different for Summerville to perform for the under 21s or even in training sessions compared to on the big stage of a Premier League game where everything is magnified and he will have thousands either cheering him on or willing him to make a mistake, it will be good for Leeds fans to know he is showing promise behind the scenes.

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

Given he is still just 20, there shouldn’t be too much pressure on his shoulders just yet and perhaps now with Leeds in a real rut and poor run of form, it might not be the best of times for Summerville to be trying to crack into the first team lineup.

The Dutch winger must have certainly impressed Marsch recently as he was the first player subbed on vs Palace yesterday despite players with far more first-team experience on there for the manager to call upon, which will surely be a huge confidence boost for Summerville.
