Phil Hay admits Leeds United could once again appeal any decision that goes against them in the Jean-Kevin Augustin trial.

Reports have started to emerge over the last few days about how Leeds are seemingly set to lose their second straight battle against RB Leipzig when it comes to paying a transfer fee for their former player, Augustin.

The French striker was part of the Leeds side that earned promotion into the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa, and while it’s reported they’re set to be ordered to be RB Leipzig a transfer fee, Hay has claimed the club could go to another court in Switzerland first.

The Athletic journalist has been speaking on The Phil Hay Show about the complicated Augstin case and how all is not yet lost for Leeds.

(37:15) “I did ask CAS [Court for Arbitration of Sport] whether there was any means of appeal beyond this and they said, in very very rare cases, you can take it to another authority in Switzerland.

“But, the way they replied made me think that this is not one of those cases and this will be absolutely binding.”

TIF Thoughts on the Augustin situation…

It has been a very long and drawn-out situation which has followed Leeds around for a long time now and despite launching this appeal to the CAS, they look set to be defeated in the end and will lose a significant amount of money.

The whole battle centred around Augustin who only played three times for Leeds but did earn promotion, and in turn, the Whites seemingly should have paid a transfer fee to RB Leipzig for the player, something they seemingly refused to do.

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

However, it looks like their long battle will not have a positive ending if the latest reports are to be believed and this may well see Jesse Marsch not handed as much money as first thought to improve his squad in the January transfer window.
