Journalist Dean Jones believes that Aaron Danks’ decision to drop John McGinn and Jacob Ramsey could change the course of Aston Villa’s season.

The caretaker boss tweaked the side’s formation as the west Midlanders ran rampant at Villa Park last Sunday.
He set up with a 4-2-3-1 formation for the 4-0 win over Brentford as the change paid immediate dividends.

Danks made the decision to drop the club captain McGinn and Ramsey and opted to bring in Leander Dendoncker and Emi Buendia.

The Villans moved out of the relegation zone as a result and Jones believes it could kickstart their season.

He told GIVEMESPORT:

“Overlooking McGinn and Ramsey was clearly quite a big decision, but also a moment that might change Villa’s season. It gave them more freedom, they were more bold, they created an attack which they just hadn’t done under Gerrard, and it probably is a turning point for him.”

Danks will remain in charge for this weekend’s fixture before Unai Emery takes over and while it remains to be seen if he sticks with a winning team it surely could be a defining moment in the club’s campaign.

Ramsey had started all but one of the club’s previous league fixtures while Steven Gerrard was in charge while McGinn was picked in each of the Liverpool icon’s initial line-ups.

However, given that Emery favoured a 4-2-3-1 formation himself while at Arsenal it should come as a concern for the duo who could find it hard to regain their place in the side even when the Spaniard arrives.
