Journalist Joshua Barrie has suggested that Fashion Sakala could be a solution to helping the Rangers attack after his fine recent display.
The 25-year-old put in an impressive 90-minute shift on Saturday as he scored as well as providing an assist in the club’s 4-0 win over St Mirren.
Indeed, Sakala scored the final goal of the game while also setting up Rangers teammate Antonio Colak, who netted a double in the comprehensive Scottish Premiership victory.
After the game, Barrie took to Twitter to express just how impressed he was he with the forward’s display, suggesting that he could be key to the team when they are struggling to add a little intensity to their attacking play.
He wrote: “Sakala’s second half yesterday was dynamic, unpredictable and effective. Injecting pace into attacks that have been too slow at points this season. Is he the solution going forwards?”
TIF thoughts on Fashion Sakala and Rangers…
Adding to his Twitter comments, Barrie wrote an article for Rangers Review where he claimed Sakala could be the answer to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s problem at right wing.
He noted the player’s ability to reach top speed ‘quicker than most players’, explaining that his dynamism makes him hard for defenders to mark tightly, especially when there is space in behind.
Interestingly enough, journalist Josh Bunting also urged Rangers to play Sakala on the right to get the best out of the player, writing: “Today is why I still think Fashion Sakala has things to offer Rangers, goal and an assist this afternoon. His goal record wasn’t bad last season, now I don’t think he’s a number 9 but play him on the right and I do think he has quality to offer. Just needs to get the game-time.”
The forward hasn’t had that many chances in the team this season – with only one start in the league – but after this display, he may well have forced his way into van Bronckhorst’s thinking..
Should Fashion Sakala start for Rangers on the wing?
