Aston Villa: Lucas Digne suffers setback in recovery

Aston Villa left-back Lucas Digne has suffered a setback in his recovery from a heel injury, which could keep him out for a number of weeks.

That is according to Ben Dinnery, who was speaking on Thursday’s FPL Injuries update ahead of this weekend’s Premier League fixtures.

Digne initially suffered a heel injury on international duty with France at the end of September and had to pull out of Didier Deschamps’ squad.

Steven Gerrard has now stated that the club will check the 29-year old’s “complicated” injury in a scan within the next 10 days, and has stated that the £25m man’s recovery could be a “slow burner”.

And Dinnery has claimed that Digne’s unique injury could keep him out for an “undefinable period of time”.

He said: “That problematic, complicated heel injury that was picked up whilst training with the French national team, that’s going to be keeping him out for an undefinable period of time.

“It’s going to be at least two to possibly three weeks before the full-back will be assessed again.

“So, no imminent return for Lucas Digne.”

TIF Thoughts on Dinnery’s comments…

We believe that Villa fans and Gerrard will be extremely disappointed that Digne is unlikely to play a role in the upcoming few weeks for the side.

The West Midlands giants are suffering a mini-injury crisis at left-back at the moment, with Ludwig Augustinsson picking up a hamstring injury in the side’s 0-0 draw at Leeds United last weekend.

Therefore, we think that Gerrard is going to have no choice but to play Ashley Young on the left side of defence, and pray that Matty Cash is going to be available to play in this week’s trip to Nottingham Forest.
