Aston Villa should look to appoint Villarreal boss Unai Emery as their next manager after sacking Steven Gerrard.

That is the view of YouTuber Rory Jennings, who was speaking on Sky Sports’ Saturday Social about who the club’s next head coach should be.

Villa sacked Gerrard last week after the former Rangers boss won just two of his opening 11 games in the Premier League this season.

According to Football Insider, the West Midlands giants are planning for talks with Emery, with the ownership reportedly seeing the Spaniard as one of the club’s ‘top targets’, while the Villarreal manager is perceived to be interested in a move.

And Jennings believes that the former Arsenal manager is the best realistic option available for Villa at this present time.

Jennings told Saturday Social: “Unai Emery probably would be my shout.

“I think Unai Emery is a good fit for that club because I think people sometimes forget Aston Villa are an enormous football team.

“They are an enormous club, they’re comparable to – not the Manchester Uniteds, Liverpools, but they’re comparable to every other club.

“So I think that they need to be ambitious, but also very sensible and make sure that they don’t go down again.”

TIF Thoughts on Jennings’ comments…

We agree with Jennings and believe that Emery is one of the best realistic options available for Villa at the moment, with Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel both seemingly uninterested in the current vacancy.

Despite a disappointing tenure with Arsenal, the current Villarreal boss has proven himself time and time again in Spain, having won the Europa League four times in his career – including once with his current side.

Therefore, we think that the Spaniard has a proven track record, and if the 50-year-old is interested in the post, the club should make a move for the former Paris Saint-Germain manager.
