According to journalist Toby Cudworth, West Ham United’s defender Kurt Zouma has been struggling to run in recent games and claims there is an underlying issue with the player.
West Ham have struggled so far this season as they currently sit 18th in the Premier League table having won just one game so far this season while scoring just three goals, despite spending over £150m in the summer.
A big reason for this has been down to persistent injuries to key players in their defence like Craig Dawson, Ben Johnson, and Nayef Aguerd. While a number of these players have returned now, Cudworth pointed out that one player is still struggling.
The journalist recently claimed during a recent appearance on the Talking Transfers podcast that Zouma was struggling to run in the club’s recent loss to Everton and believes there is an underlying issue from this injury.
Cudworth said, “Kurt Zouma we’ve mentioned him before, and his dodgy knee, for those who watched the Everton game after about half an hour, he honestly could not run, he cannot sprint. Graham said to me in a message, he’s got one speed, and I would very much agree. There’s an underlying issue there.” (37:33)
TIF Thoughts on Zouma…
If West Ham are to turn their fortunes around this season and get back to compete for a European spot they are going to need key players like Zouma to get back to full fitness and top form for the rest of the season.
So far this season Zouma has played a lot for the club but has not had the impact needed, through his seven Premier League appearances he has played every minute and the team have only kept one clean sheet.
The return of Dawson and potentially Aguerd soon will help the side out, but if Zouma does not get back to full fitness they are going to struggle to get back to their previous form and could even find themselves in a relegation scrap.
Has Zouma been poor this season?
