ExWHUemployee has revealed that injured West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd will only play before the World Cup in a best-case scenario.
The Moroccan centre-back arrived in the summer from Rennes for £30m but sadly suffered an injury before playing a competitive game for the Hammers.
Indeed, he came off during the first half of a pre-season friendly match against Rangers and has been out with an ankle injury preventing him from playing a single game since.
For the player individually, he will be hoping to represent his country at the winter World Cup and Ex has revealed that this situation will be ‘touch and go’ while his chances of playing for West Ham before then aren’t necessarily that high either.
While speaking on The West Ham Way podcast, he said: “I was also told that Aguerd is ahead of schedule. Aguerd was touch and go to be fit before the World Cup break.
“Obviously his national side, Morocco, have qualified for the World Cup. So at worst he will be hoping to go and feature for them in the World Cup. But at best he will be hoping to get a couple of games for us just before that break, the Leicester City game at home.”
TIF Thoughts on Nayef Aguerd and West Ham…
At least Aguerd is ‘ahead of schedule’ which suggests he hasn’t faced any setbacks so far during his road to recovery but it’s still a massive blow for West Ham fans to hear he isn’t close to returning yet either.
And with 25 caps to his name, while playing for his country Morocco, the player is clearly a key part of the international set-up there too and so he will be desperate to play some part at the World Cup.
Considering the Irons sit in the relegation zone having won just one game this season in the Premier League too, they could use some extra quality in their team. No doubt, they’ll be hoping to see Aguerd in a West Ham kit sooner rather than later.
