Newcastle United: Crook claims Howe will be in trouble if they do not beat Bournemouth

|

According to journalist Alex Crook, Newcastle United boss, Eddie Howe will have pressure on him if he losses their next Premier League game as the club have invested heavily in recent transfer windows.

The magpies have splashed the cash in the transfer windows since the arrival of the Saudi Public Investment Fund, as they spent £90.99m in the 2022 January window and then £122.4m in the recent summer window.

Despite spending this king’s ransom on players, they have not lit up the Premier League as they currently sit 11th in the table, having won just one of their six games being their opener, meaning they haven’t won in their last five.

They are due to face Bournemouth this weekend and Crook believes if they fail to take all three points, Howe could be in trouble and will have a lot of pressure on his job moving forward.

Crook said on the Talk Sport Game Day podcast, “Yes, they’ve had good performances in defeat against Liverpool and drawing with Manchester City. But if they don’t win this game, then I think there would be a little bit of pressure on Eddie Howe early in the season because they have invested heavily not just this summer, but in the January transfer window as well.

“Bournemouth are at a low ebb you know they didn’t get in the players that Scott Parker wanted in the summer. They’ve got a caretaker manager, at least for this game and maybe for the first game back after the international break as well. So, I think there’s an awful lot of pressure on Eddie Howe and on Newcastle”. (23:14)

TIF Thoughts on Crook’s comments…

Throughout his career, Howe has just a 40.31% win rate which is nowhere near good enough for a team like Newcastle who has aspirations to eventually reach the upper echelons of club football.

Things have not gotten any better so far this season as the Magpies currently have a 28.57% win rate and are averaging 1.43 points per game. However, in this time they have played the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Brighton, and Wolves.

Howe was previously relegated with Bournemouth before he joined the Magpies, while the club have no chance of that happening they need a big step up in form if they are to challenge the top six. If this doesn’t happen this season, they need to move him on and bring in an elite manager.
