Journalist Charles Watts has claimed it is ‘beyond mad’ that Arsenal defender Ben White was left out of the latest England squad.

With the World Cup set to take place at the end of this year, players from across the globe will be desperately hoping they are in their manager’s plans at the moment with an international break fast approaching.

Unfortunately for White, though, he has not been called into Gareth Southgate’s squad that will play against Italy and Germany later this month.

In reaction to his snub, Watts has slammed the decision from the England boss, taking to Twitter to make his strong feelings clearly known.

Indeed, the journalist wrote: “Saka and Ramsdale in the England squad. No Ben White, which is beyond mad. Maguire and Coady included.”

TIF thoughts on Ben White and Arsenal…

White has started in every one of the Gunners’ Premier League games so far, helping the side impress as they currently sit top of the table.

With that in mind, it does seem odd that somebody like Harry Maguire – who has started just twice in the league all season for Manchester United, losing both times – has been picked over the Arsenal defender.

It seems as though Watts isn’t the only one confused by the call as well, with Darren Bent telling talkSPORT (via Evening Standard): “How can Maguire be in the squad and Ben White not be? I need someone to tell me a reasonable argument.

“By trade, Ben White is a centre-half. Maguire’s got no form and he’s not playing.”

It certainly does seem like an unusual decision but it doesn’t bode well for White and his hopes of booking a place on the plane for Qatar 2022.
