After Celtic opened the scoring against Ross County, John McGinley heaped praise on Jota for the role he played in the goal.

The forward signed a permanent deal this summer, and has rewarded Celtic ever since, scoring on the opening day against Aberdeen, before playing a key role in their first goal against Ross County in the first-half.

This comes after a stunning first campaign in Scotland last season, in which Jota scored 10 goals, and assisted a further 10 the Scottish Premiership. It is a goal involvement tally that he will look to at least replicate this season, as Celtic look to retain their Scottish crown.

As shown against Ross County, Jota doesn’t always need to be the goalscorer, with the extensive ability to turn creator. As Kyogo Furuhashi wheeled away in celebration, he had his teammate to thanks for laying the ball on a plate after winning it back in the first place.

McGinley was full of praise for Jota, taking to Twitter to say:

TIF Thoughts on Jota…

Turning Jota’s loan deal into a permanent one is looking like an incredibly smart decision from Celtic. If they missed out the forward this summer, who contributed to 20 league goals last season, they would have likely been left kicking themselves.

Jota provides the type of firepower needed to win a league title, and he will hope to prove that for a second consecutive campaign for Celtic this season. And, whilst he continues to provide the goals, we can’t see any reason why the Bhoys won’t be in contention to have lifted plenty of silverware come May.
