West Ham United could still sign three more players before the transfer window closes on 1st September.
That is according to Dean Jones, who was talking to This is Futbol about the club’s potential transfer plans, heading into the remaining weeks of the transfer window.
David Moyes has been able to welcome five permanent additions to the London Stadium this summer, with the most notable being the club finally ending a search for a striker, following the acquisition of Sassuolo and Italy forward Gianluca Scamacca for £30.5m.
Rennes’ Nayef Aguerd, Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet, Swansea City’s Flynn Downes, and Paris Saint-Germain’s Alphonse Areola have also signed permanent contracts for the Irons this summer, with the latter having played for the club on loan last season.
And Jones wouldn’t be surprised if the club added three more additions before the transfer deadline passes.
“So yeah, I’d say that it wouldn’t surprise me if West Ham were to make three signings before the deadline.
“But I say it wouldn’t surprise me, in a way it would because they’ve struggled so much to actually get anything done this summer.”
TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments
We believe that following an injury crisis at the back, the Hammers could really do with adding another centre-back to their squad, especially after Aguerd’s ankle injury, suffered in a pre-season fixture with Rangers, could rule him out for up to ten weeks.
As well as this, the club have sold fellow centre-half Issa Diop to Fulham for a fee of £15m, suggesting that Moyes only has three options for the position, assuming all three are fit.
Therefore, we believe that West Ham fans will be delighted to hear that Jones thinks there will be three more additions at the London Stadium this summer, but will be fearful for what happens if they can’t bring the bodies in before the window is out.
