Everton manager Frank Lampard would prefer to sign players with experience of playing in the Premier League.

That is according to Dean Jones, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the Toffees’ potential transfer business, heading into the final few weeks of the transfer window.

Lampard has welcomed five new signings to Goodison Park so far this summer, four of which have previous experience of playing Premier League football.

The Merseyside club have also now got an established interest in Southampton and Scotland striker Ché Adams, as the former Chelsea manager looks to strengthen his side in order to prevent a repeat of last season’s close shave with relegation to the Championship.

And Jones believes that Lampard would want the club to sign somebody with experience of playing in English football’s top-flight.

“I think really, Lampard typically wants someone with experience of the league.

“I mean, that’s what he would typically look for.

“So even if they were to look to like France for a signing, I would expect them to sign somebody else additionally to that.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments

We believe that for a club who were in Everton’s predicament last season, proven Premier League additions may be the best way to progress the club up the table this season.

The additions of James Tarkowski, Conor Coady, and Dwight McNeil look to be particularly smart additions to the Toffees side this summer, with all three players having played in the Premier League last season.

Therefore, we believe that Lampard’s philosophy of recruiting current/former Premier League players may be the key to the club’s success over the next season.
