Joe Short, reporter for i, has criticised Jarrod Bowen after West Ham United’s disappointing 1-0 loss against Nottingham Forest.

The Hammers will be incredibly frustrated not to have come away with at least a point after hitting the bar twice, having a goal disallowed by VAR and seeing Declan Rice’s second-half penalty saved.

Taiwo Awoniyi was the matchwinner for Forest with his goal just before the break.

Out of the West Ham players, Short was left disappointed with the 6/10 Bowen, saying in his player ratings: “Disappointingly quiet for such an influential player. Like Coufal, Toffolo had command of that flank.”

The England international will hope to bounce back in the Premier League next time out when West Ham square off against Brighton & Hove Albion.

TIF Thoughts on Bowen…

It’s not been an electric start by Bowen this season. Throughout the last campaign, he played a starring role in an impressive West Ham campaign, scoring 12 goals and assisting a further 12 in the Premier League alone. Meanwhile, he finished with 30 goal involvements in all competitions.

This season, though, after games against Manchester City and Nottingham Forest, Bowen is yet to get his name on the scoresheet or register an assist. It won’t worry David Moyes just yet, of course, as we’re so early into the season, but the longer the drought goes on, the more it turns from a notable stat to be of potential concern.

He lost seven duels against Forest and managed just 39 touches in what was a disappointing performance (SofaScore).

With Brighton up next, the West Ham forward has the chance to help his side to their first win of the Premier League season by getting back amongst the goals.
