Insider ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United defender Craig Dawson could return from injury soon.

So far this season, the English defender has been unable to play even a single minute of action in the Premier League. Meaning he has watched on helplessly as the Hammers have lost all three of their opening games.

However, in more positive news, it looks as though Dawson is at last edging closer to a return and could even be involved in the match-day squad against Aston Villa this weekend.

When discussing the injury on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex said that the centre-back could be back in training ‘this week’ and outlined his expectations on a possible return date.

He explained (02:03): “Craig Dawson is getting nearer to a return. There’s a possibility he could be back in training this week.

“So if he is, there’s an outside chance he could be on the bench maybe for Villa. But I think he’s certainly in line to recover the next couple of weeks.”

TIF thoughts on Craig Dawson and West Ham…

With natural right-back Ben Johnson having to often fill in at centre-back, Dawson’s return to the West Ham team will likely be met with much anticipation – especially with marquee summer signing Nayef Aguerd also unavailable to play in defence at the moment thanks to a bad ankle injury.

The 32-year-old has been a regular for David Moyes over the past few seasons, playing 34 league games in the prior campaign, and so his presence has likely been missed of late.

And with new signing Thilo Kehrer struggling in defence on his Premier League debut – giving a penalty away against Brighton – a bit more experience at the back will likely be a big boost for the club.
