It has been claimed that Manchester United have recently turned down an offer for defender and captain Harry Maguire from their Premier League rivals Chelsea

The England international has experienced a tough time since he joined the Red Devils for a huge £80m back in 2019, and has faced plenty of criticism from fans and former players on his performances and role as the club’s captain.

Maguire was recently dropped for United’s most recent game against bitter rivals Liverpool, in which the Manchester side picked up their first win of the Premier League season in a hard-fought 2-1 win at Old Trafford.

However, despite failing to impress at United, it would appear Maguire is still in demand as insider ExWHUemployee recently revealed the club have turned down a bid from their rivals Chelsea, as the west London club look to rebuild their defence after losing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Ex told The Transfer Show: “They turned down an offer from Chelsea for Harry Maguire, which was a bit of a random one that one for Chelsea.” (2:49)

TIF Thoughts on a Maguire deal…

So far this season Maguire has played the full 90 minutes in the club’s disappointing and embarrassing defeats at the hands of Brighton and Brentford, losing 2-1 and 4-0 respectively. During this time he has managed to pick up two yellow cards while failing to lead his team to even a point.

Seeing as United managed to pick up a win in their last game playing Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez at the back, it would not be surprising to see the team move forward with these two as the starters. Therefore, it could be feasible for the Red Devils to cash in on Maguire as the two could use a clean break from this awful era.

However, it is hard to see why Chelsea would want to bring Maguire in as according to Fbref stats, the defender currently ranks in the 14th percentile for pressures, 35th for tackles, and 50th for clearances per game.

United should do whatever they can to get rid of Maguire and move on under Ten Hag, but for a club like Chelsea who are in desperate need of a starting calibre centre-back, it just does not make sense to us.
