Tottenham Hotspur could look to sign another centre-back this summer before the transfer window’s closure amid the latest rumours surrounding Japhet Tanganga’s future.

That is according to journalist Dean Jones, who was speaking to This is Futbol about Spurs’ potential transfer business with the final two weeks of the window now upon us.

Antonio Conte has already welcomed a centre-back addition to his side in the form of Barcelona and France centre-back Clément Lenglet, who has signed for the club on a season-long loan.

Speaking of centre-backs, reports in Italy now suggest that Inter are considering making a move for Japhet Tanganga, with the defender also being linked with a move to city rivals Milan earlier in the summer.

However, the 23-year-old’s departure could potentially leave Antonio Conte short of options at centre-back, particularly with Cristian Romero’s muscle injury potentially sidelining him for 3-4 weeks.

And Jones believes that Spurs could make a move for another centre-back this summer, especially if Tanganga leaves the club.

He said: “I am starting to wonder if they’ll go for a centre-back as well.

“If Tanganga goes particularly, I think that Spurs could go shopping again in that market.

“I’ve considered before that they might hold off until January and see whether they actually need anyone.

“But they’re getting a couple of knocks in that area and they have Lenglet not totally figuring at the moment. I do think we should watch out for another defender coming in.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

We believe that Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy will already be looking at potential centre-back targets behind the scenes as it stands, with the club facing a mini-injury crisis in the backline.

However, we do believe that the squad may be able to deal with injuries if they don’t suffer any more absences and manage to keep hold of Tanganga until January.

Therefore, we believe that instead of signing another centre-back, the club should save their money and keep hold of the defender so they can fully survey their best route forward ahead of the January transfer market.
