Tottenham Hotspur hold an interest in PSV winger Cody Gakpo – and is a name to keep an eye on over the next week.

Whilst speaking on the Last Word On Spurs YouTube channel, Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas has highlighted the Dutchman as a player who is on Fabio Paratici’s radar.

The winger has been strongly linked with a potential move to Manchester United, but it is believed the Eredivisie side are holding out for an offer in the region of £42m.

Spurs’ north London rivals Arsenal have also been linked with the 23-year-old, who the Dutch media expect to depart before next week’s transfer deadline.

Having already added Richarlison to Antonio Conte’s frontline and despite links to Everton’s Anthony Gordon, Thomas believes fans should keep an eye on the Dutch winger over the coming days.

He said: “Cody Gakpo is one to keep an eye on, I think. Spurs definitely like him. Again, as I said before, right-footed, plays off the left, young, talented, not going to cost as much as Anthony Gordon.”

TIF Thoughts on Thomas’ comments…

Conte has already suggested that if Bryan Gil is to leave – which looks likely – Spurs need to bring in a replacement, and we think Gakpo would be a huge upgrade on the Spaniard.

Do Spurs need to replace Bryan Gil?

No

No

The 23-year-old, who has been described as an ‘enormous talent’, enjoyed an excellent 2021/22 campaign which saw him return 12 goals and 13 assists in the league alone, which would be an obvious upgrade on a player like Gil, who has struggled to even get a handful of minutes at Spurs.

However, it is apparent PSV are not going to allow Gakpo to leave on the cheap, so that would bring the question of whether Spurs are willing to spend big on another player – like Richarlison – who is not a guaranteed starter.
